Psychology-Led Wellbeing Framework

The Story So Far

The evolution of the 8Wise® Method

The Person Behind the Method

The 8Wise® Method was developed by Kim Rutherford, a psychotherapist, wellbeing consultant and educator whose work focuses on helping people navigate the pressures of modern life.

Before training as a psychotherapist, Kim spent more than twenty years working in people development across social welfare sectors including housing, education, employability, and health and social care.

Throughout this work she observed how major life events and competing responsibilities often create pressures that gradually affect mental health and wellbeing.

Kim is also neurodivergent, an experience that has influenced her interest in structured ways of understanding complex life pressures.

In 2014, while navigating several significant life changes, relocation, career transition, buying a first home and planning a wedding, the cumulative pressure led to burnout and dysfunctional stress. After a car accident she stepped away from work and took a six-month sabbatical, during which she experienced health anxiety, depression and agoraphobia.

While waiting for counselling support, Kim began mapping the pressures affecting different areas of her life and how they had gradually exceeded her capacity to manage them.

This reflection became the seed of what would later evolve into the 8Wise® Method.

During her recovery Kim retrained as a psychotherapist and established a practice supporting individuals navigating many of the same high-pressure life situations. Through this work the framework developed into a structured method for understanding how life pressures interact across different areas of life and influence wellbeing.

The 8Wise® Method was created to help people step back, see the wider picture of their lives, and manage pressure more wisely.,
