  1. Set a specific goal

Often people cam make the mistake of setting goals that are too broad such as ‘get in shape’. Rather than choosing something so ambiguous, focus on something that’s more tangible that you can realistically stick to. This could be something like ‘do three exercise classes a week’ or ‘run a mini-marathon’.

  1. Don’t spread yourself top thin

Don’t fall into the trap of setting yourself a long list of New Year’s resolutions. Try to pick one that you can focus your efforts on.

  1. Plan, plan, plan!

When you’ve chosen your goal, spend some time planning how you’re going to achieve it. Start by writing down your goal, making a list of things you can do to get there, and note any obstacles that might stand in your way. By knowing exactly what you want to accomplish and the difficulties you might face, you’ll be better prepared to stick to your resolution and overcome anything that might sidetrack you.

  1. Start small

Many resolutions fail because people take on too much too quickly. Focus on small steps that will ultimately help you to reach your larger goal.

  1. Get support

Tell your friends and family about your goals as this can help you to stay motivated and accountable. One of your loved ones may also be reaching for the same goal, which is fun to aim for together!
