This week is Self Care Week. We are huge advocates of self care, as we know just how important it is for our mental health and wellbeing. If we don’t take some time out to practice self care regularly, we can end up feeling burnt out, depressed, and anxious. Self care means doing anything to keep ourselves healthy. It has been proven to decrease or eliminate anxiety and depression, reduce stress levels, boost concentration, minimise frustration and anger, increase happiness and improve energy. It has also been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, and cancer.

In today’s blog post we’re sharing eight easy ways that you can practice self care, whilst boosting each of the 8Wise™️ wellness elements.

  1. Physical Wellness

Stretch! Not only does stretching help prevent physical injury and help with your mobility, it also is great for your mental wellbeing. Try and start your day with five minutes of stretching each morning.

  1. Emotional Wellness

Try out a stress relief app. Managing your stress levels is an important part of boosting your emotional wellness, and it’s a great form of self care.

  1. Spiritual Wellness

Journal. Take some time to reflect on your day – how did you feel? Is there anything you were proud of yourself for today? Is there something you could have handled better? Why not try our 8 Wise Ways 12 Week Journal? You can shop it here.

  1. Social Wellness

Call your friend for a chat. Having a laugh, or opening up to a loved one about what’s on your mind is a great way to practice self care. It also really helps to strengthen your social wellness.

  1. Financial Wellness

Check your bank account and set yourself a budget for the month. This may not sound like your typical form of self care, but being in control of your finances is actually really important and does wonders for your wellbeing!

  1. Intellectual Wellness

Read your favourite book. Sometimes there’s nothing like getting stuck into your favourite story with a cup of tea.

  1. Environmental Wellness

Head outside. Go for a walk around your local park, or your neighbourhood. Fresh air and greenery is an important step in any self care routine.

  1. Occupational Wellness

Take time off work. We all need time off – make sure you’re taking all of your allocated annual leave to recharge your batteries.

Having an established self care routine is so important to our overall health and wellbeing. If you do one thing today, think about what you do to practice self care and if you need to get more serious about it.
